More examples of the Habitat Management Plan in action:
Invasive Weeds Remediation Program
Northstar implements a program to remove and monitor invasive weeds. This program entails employee training, weed inventory, weed abatement measures, collaboration with Placer County, and coordination with neighboring land owners. Northstar construction practices mandate measures to prevent the spread of invasive weeds such as the cleaning of contractor equipment and utilizing products certified as "weed free."
Annual Resort Monitoring & Maintenance
Northstar staff performs annual maintenance on resort roadways, drainage infrastructure, and ski runs. This includes improvements to roadway and stream crossings, revegetation and restoration of decommissioned trails and roadways, vegetation monitoring, and improvements for erosion control.
Seasonal Wildlife Closure Area
Northstar implements a wildlife closure area in Zones D and E of the resort from 4/15-7/31 to protect sensitive wildlife species. Additionally, the Schaffer Creek trail, located adjacent to the Schaffer Creek corridor, has been decomissioned to protect wildlife and water quality (right).
Annual Stream Assessments
Example 3Annual stream assessments are performed by Northstar staff to monitor and evaluate the health of stream corridors.
Example 4Northstar's proposed Forest Flyer builds on the traditional reach of ski areas to connect individuals and families who may not otherwise visit the mountains or forest by allowing more diversity of ages and abilities to connect to the outdoors in a new and exciting way that responds to their needs, skill levels and experiences.
