Nature Valley Stargazing Snowshoe Tours

Come take advantage of the dark Tahoe skies this winter with star guide and poet Tony Berendsen during our Nature Valley Star Gazing Snowshoe Tours. Every tour is as different as the starry skies above however each will include a poem reading, a fun space quiz, a laser tour of the stars and constellations, a telescopic viewing using top of the line Celestron telescopes and wine and hot cider around a fire pit. All tours will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will depart from the Cross-Country Ski, Telemark & Snowshoe Center.

During the 2 to 2.5 hour tour, Tony will lead you through some of our snowshoe trails including challenging, rolling terrain all while chatting about the wonders of the sky. After, you'll snowshoe back to the Cross-Country Center for the laser tour, telescope viewing, wine and hot cider around one of our fire pits. After you've had time to relax, the group will snowshoe down the last 1/2 mile to the Village at Northstar where the tour will end. Dogs on leashes are welcome!

Stargazing tours are offered:

  • December 26, 30
  • January 17
  • February 21

December 26: Mouth of the Whale
Within Cetus Whale a dwarf planet Eris travels across the sky. What are dwarf planets, where did they come from, and where are they found?

December 30: Watery Stars of the Sea Monster
What wonders lurk in the waters of the starry sky? Exoplanets and planets floating in the cosmos!

January 17: Star Clusters of Taurus
Two spectacular galactic families of stars light up the sky. Where is the Sun’s family?

February 21: Jupiter Joins the Twins
Multiple stars of the Gemini Twins, and the multiple moons of the giant planet Jupiter.

Rates are $55 for adults, $39 for children ages 10 - 12, and snowshoes are available for rent for $17.

Reservations can be made through 1.800.GO.NORTH or through the Cross Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center at 530.562.3270. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance and reservations are highly recommended since this event sells out on a regular basis.
