Ski + Snowboard Team Programs

 

Northstar continues to be recognized as offering one of the top ski and snowboard team programs in the region. During the 2012-13 winter season, some of the Northstar team athletes participated in National competitions, and all demonstrated solid improvement in their skiing and riding.

Team athletes can achieve their full potential on the mountain as a result of skills developed through the Northstar Coaching System by coaches who offer individualized attention. Coupled with the leadership support of the Northstar Teams Foundation, participating athletes will achieve even greater success.

Programs and pricing for the 2013-14 winter season are now available below, and interested participants should reserve their spot now in order to take advantage of the best available pricing. Team prices are only guaranteed at their current rates through May 31, 2013. Please sign up now for the lowest guaranteed pricing.

Team programs feature:

  • Programs designed to fit the aspirations of the athletes;
  • Northstar Coaching System, offering contemporary training methodologies consisting of a series of progressions and skills;
  • Qualified, experienced coaches who are considered to be some of the best in the region;
  • Ability to use different training venues, as compared to the traditional model of one "dedicated" slope for training;
  • Limited access to Northstar's 22-Foot Superpipe and top-rated terrain parks.

Season passes continue to be sold separately so that families have the flexibility to determine which season pass product is right for them, whether they want the ability to ski/ride in both CA and CO. As a result, freeskiing training opportunities will continue to be available for participants at three resorts – Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood – on a single pass.

Development Ski Teams

All-Mountain Development Ski Team Weekends + Holidays

Program Description:The goal is to teach and develop fundamental skiing skills through all mountain exploration, drills and directed skiing in all conditions. The program will also develop a life-long passion for the skiing culture and spirit. This program does not offer a competitive focus, but rather all-around excellent skiing fundamentals.
Program Focus:Focus on learning and developing new skills, having fun and exploring the mountain, with an introduction to parks and racing, when appropriate.
Ages:7 - 16*
Skill Level:Levels 5 - 7  
Training Schedule + Start Dates: Weekends and Holidays starting Saturday, December 7, 2013.

Freeride Development Ski Team (Park & Pipe)Weekends + Holidays

Program Description:This program aims to teach good skiing skills and tactics that can be used all around the mountain and in all conditions. Freeride is entry level to a variety of Freeride competitions and events. Athletes will learn to progress and develop a life-long passion for the sport.
Program Focus:30% ski skill development/ 70% park feature development. If skiing skills are sufficient, athlete may be put in a group that focuses more on park skills than skiing skills.
Ages:7 - 16*

Alpine Race Development Team Weekends + HolidaysDevo Race "PLUS"

Program Description:The Development Program aims to teach and develop fundamental skiing skills through a variety of drills, gate training, and directed skiing. It will be a mix of controlled and free skiing environments. This is the first step toward a life-long passion for skiing, as well as the competitive race program. The difference between Devo "Weekend/Holiday" and "Devo Race PLUS" is time on the snow.
Program Focus:Focus on skills development and introduction to ski racing in Tahoe League. 50% time will be spent in a closed/controlled environment (running gates, etc.); skills Quest Assessment and Evaluation. 50% time spent in the free environment with direction skiing and fun. Introduction to conditioning and nutrition with video analysis on training days.

Program Description:This program will train upper level athletes and prepare them for competitive Freeride events, regionally and nationally. These programs are for more committed athletes seeking to increase their Park and Pipe competition visibility and/or make skiing a career through competition.
Program Focus:90% on-hill time will be spent in the terrain park or appropriate arena for athletes to train for competition. Athletes will be participating in all of their preferred local events, and may be asked by a coach to participate in other events. Athletes will do pre-season and mid-season goal sheets. Video analysis will be included in training.

Program Description:The Northstar competition program is designed for the competitive-minded elite athlete to take their ski racing to the highest level. This alpine competition team is comprised of athletes ranging in age from 12-18 years. The program takes the skiing skill fundamentals introduced and practiced in our Alpine Development Team and further refines them to enhance the athletes' overall skiing abilities. Athletes will train and compete in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill (age and ability appropriate) on our Tahoe League only. Our alpine race coaches will provide skill development in the areas of appropriate goal setting, planning and training/racing opportunities, appropriate equipment choices, summer on-snow opportunities as well as dry land recommendations. Days on the hill will include gate training, race-specific drills and free skiing drills.
Program Focus:

40% Gate training in a closed and controlled environment/Race-specific skills and drills/60% Directed free skiing

Snowboard Teams

Trailblazers (Starter) Snowboard Team WeekendSunday-Only

Program Description:Ideal for families that want their kids to develop strong fundamental snowboard skills in a fun group environment with consistent coaching. This program will explore the basics of all aspects of snowboarding, progressing them to various parts of the mountain.

Rider Level:

Minimum: Snowboarder must be able to make cautious heel side and toe side turns on Green Terrain as well as load and unload the Big Easy Chairlift without help from the coach.

Maximum: Child is consistently linking turns on steeper Blue Terrain.

Riders that exceed a Level 5 should join our Freeride Snowboard Team.

Child must be independent enough to manage themselves with a group of other shredders.

Parents are asked to be on-mountain and available to handle daily concerns with our kids ages 7 and under.

Masters' Program Information

Northstar California's Masters Program is designed for adults 18+ seeking the opportunity to take both their skiing and ski racing skills to the highest level. For parents with children in the alpine programs, skiing with the Masters program is a great way to get to know the sport your kids are enjoying.

Program Description:

The program develops and builds skiing fundamentals to enhance the athlete's overall skiing ability. Our coaches provide skill development in the areas of appropriate goal setting, planning and training/racing opportunities, appropriate equipment choices, summer on-snow opportunities as well as dry land training recommendations. Training on the hill will include gate training, race-specific drills, free skiing drills, directed free skiing and video analysis.

The Masters program gives the skier another way to love the sport, bring out their competitive nature and have loads of fun.
