If you look good, you feel good. Creating thoughtful and meaningful interactions is what Northstar California is all about, which is why it is important for our staff to have a clean and neat appearance. Wearing the appropriate uniform helps our guests identify us as helpful and knowledgeable staff. Human Resources or your department supervisor will distribute the appropriate uniform based on the position you were hired for. In cases where employees are not supplied a full company uniform, they will be expected to conform to grooming standards and dress appropriately for the job. We take pride in wearing our Northstar uniform and it is your responsibility to keep your uniform clean and wrinkle-free.
In order to continue meaningful interactions with our guests some of our departments require nametags to be worn. If you are required to wear a nametag, the name on the tag should be your birth name. Lost or stolen nametags should be replaced immediately.
Outdoor uniforms will be issued to the appropriate staff by the Human Resource team. However, most employees must provide their own work pants. Pants must be in good condition. We do not allow excessively faded, tight, frayed, unhemmed, or patched pants. Fitted or relaxed fit pants are acceptable, but baggy pants that expose undergarments are not permitted. Employees are not allowed to expose their mid-drifts or undergarments at any time.
When weather and job conditions allow, men and women may wear shorts and women may wear skirts. Shorts and skirts must be of an appropriate length. We do not allow skirts or shorts to be excessively short, tight, baggy, faded, frayed, unhemmed or patched. Please ask your supervisor for specifics.
Only company logo hats should be worn while on duty during operating season. Hats with logos or written statements other than Northstar may not be worn. A hat may or may not be issued as part of your uniform depending on your position.
Employees are allowed to display a discreet nose stud or nose screw, retainer or tongue cap, typically 18G – 20G. One small, tasteful and unobtrusive nose stud is allowed, however all other facial jewelry or other visible body piercing, such as nose rings, tongue studs, earlobe plugs, etc. are not acceptable on male or female staff and may not be worn at work. In general, modifications that alter the original integrity of your body would be open for review. (i.e loops as a results of grommet holes, neck stretching) If you have a tattoo, it must be covered while on duty. Management reserves the right to change or modify this policy at anytime.
Jewelry must be in good taste and not excessive. Rings and watches are permitted, however we recommend they be removed when working around machinery. Employees may wear earrings, however only studs and small hoops or dangles are permitted for safety reasons.
Please keep beards and goatees neatly trimmed, with mustaches no longer than the corners of the mouth and sideburns no longer than to the corner of the ear. Hair must be neat and of a natural color (not purple, green, orange, pink, blue, etc.). If head hair exceeds collar length, it must be pulled back in a ponytail or tucked up under a company-approved hat when working around equipment/machinery or food. Hair must be kept neat and clean at all times. No extreme styles are permitted. Matted hair is allowed only if pulled back and covered using a company issued hat or material that is not distracting to our guests.
