Rooted in the culinary arts, Northstar California proudly fosters children learning about healthy food and how to prepare it. Executive Chef Steve Anderson hand-selects eight teams of youth chefs from a video contest to face-off in front of a live audience at Zephyr Lodge. All in the name of Project MANA, a Tahoe-based nonprofit organization dedicated to hunger relief, three judges evaluate each dish crafted by the children in a blind cooking competition. Friends, families and spectators are invited to purchase tickets to cheer on the upcoming culinary talent in our own backyard. The top two competitors meet again in the kitchen at the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival for the first place title.
During the event Northstar and Project MANA will be hosting a luncheon for the guests while they cheer on their favorite teams. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Project MANA, a local Tahoe-based non-profit. Project MANA's mission is to reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon individuals, families, the community and the region. In addition to providing hunger relief, they have developed programs designed to alleviate the causes of hunger and promote nutrition through education and awareness.
