On-Mountain Activities

Those looking to enjoy the great outdoors during the winter in Lake Tahoe need look no further than Northstar. With activities suited for all ages, Northstar is the one-stop shop for winter vacationers.

Cross Country Center

Want to try something different? Come on up to the Cross Country, Telemark + Snowshoe Center where you can check out classic and skate skiing, snowshoeing, and telemark skiing! We offer state-of-the-art rental equipment, daily lessons and tours, including great package deals, and over 35 kilometers of carefully groomed, scenic trails.


Tubing is a great activity for everyone - skiers, snowboarders, kids, teenagers and adults alike will enjoy the exhilarating ride down our 200 yard hill.  Tubes and riders are transported by tow lift to the top of the hill and tubers can slide down one at a time or in daisy chains.

Showshoeing Lessons, Rentals & Tours

Our peaceful trail system includes terrain for all ability levels, from true beginners to advanced, and offers access to wilderness warming huts, stocked daily with hot chocolate and hot tea, picnic tables, and great vistas of the Martis Valley and Lake Tahoe.

In The Village

With a virtually endless array of things to do, The Village at Northstar is a beehive of activity all year long. Enjoy live music on The Village Stage on weekends, ice-skating, bungee jumping, and ongoing activities sponsored by the various boutiques and eateries.

Ice Skating

The fire pits around the 9,000 sf ice skating rink provide families with the perfect gathering to take a few laps together, settle at the fire pits and enjoy what winter in Tahoe is all about. 

S'more Time

Enjoy complimentary, fresh-baked s'mores every day at 3:30pm in The Village. S'mores kits are also available for purchase at the Cabana Bars all day long!

Bungee Trampoline & Ropes Challenge

Adventure, Guiding & Learning Center

Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned expert, Northstar California has the perfect school for everyone. Send the kids on a fun day of ski school to meet to friends and forge new adventures, take the whole family for a group lesson, or get away by yourself on a private guided tour of the mountain - it's totally your day to customize! 

The Northstar Ski + Snowboard School features the Northstar Teaching System, where teaching, coaching and guiding styles are consistent from one coach to another. Our Big Easy beginner area and progression parks are designed to accelerate learning utilizing very small to medium skiing or riding features. These contemporary teaching and learning systems are unique to our school, and provide an experience you won’t want to end.

Beginner: This is your first time at Northstar, and your first time skiing. Whether you want to become an expert skier or just learn a fun new sport, this is where it all starts. 

What to expect:

  • Learn how to glide across the snow in a controlled fashion
  • Learn how to wedge stop
  • Gain a basic understanding of the mechanics of skiing
  • Have a fun day and discover what skiing is all about

Intermediate: You can ski parallel (no wedge) all the way down Blue groomed runs. You’re comfortable on Blue groomed runs and Green groomed runs are considered easy. You’re looking to take your skiing to the next level and begin exploring Black runs

What to expect:

  • Work on new turning techniques on Blue runs in preparation for moving to Black runs
  • Refine your posture and improve your form
  • Explore the expanded possibilities of skiing that come with improved skills

Expert: You enjoy the challenge of Black terrain and runs. You’re comfortable on most advanced terrain, but wish to improve your ability and consistency skiing bumps, powder and steeps in various conditions.

What to expect:

  • Learn to read terrain and understand what to expect when skiing it
  • Improve your form on challenging steep terrain
  • Learn how to adapt to changing conditions
  • Improve your comfort level and ability skiing off-trail

Private: Experience the best Northstar California has to offer.  Private instruction is offered for all ages, abilities and disciplines: Alpine Ski and Snowboard

What to expect:

  • "First-Class" private lift lane privileges for quick access to the slopes
  • Choose undivided, one-on-one attention, or share with up to 6 friends or family members
  • Customize your experience; choose adventure, guiding or learning
